T-Mobile New Horizons IFF to open with "La vie d’Adèle – Chapitre 1 & 2". Competition titles revealed

Poland’s biggest film festival, the T-Mobile New Horizons International Film Festival (18-28 July 2013) announced its full line-up. The festival will open with this year’s Palme d’Or winner, La vie d’Adèle – Chapitre 1 & 2 (Blue is the Warmest Colour) by Abdellatif Kechiche. The closing film will be the Polish premiere of Malgoska Szumowska’s Berlinale competition title and Teddy Award winner In the Name of. The festival organizers also announced the full line-up including all competition films.

The New Horizons International Competition consists of 12 bold and original Polish premieres including Rotterdam competition title Noche by Leonardo Brzezicki, Locarno FIPRESCI award winner Leviathan by Lucien Castaing-Taylor and Véréna Paravel, as well as this year’s Cannes’ Un Certain Regard title Stranger by the Lake by Alain Guiraudie. The Jury for this competition will be announced next week.

The Films in Art International Competition comprises of 12 creative documentaries including Peaches does Herself directed by the singer Peaches, the Sundance award winner Cutie and the Boxer by Zachary Heinzerling and What is this film called love? by Mark Cousins. Jury members in that competition include visual artists and filmmakers Ben Russel, Amos Poe and Karol Radziszewski, as well as MOMA curator, Sally Berger and Diagonale festival director, Barbara Pichler.

Films awarded the Grand Prix, Audience Award and FIPRESCI Award in the New Horizons International Competition and the winner of the Films On Art International Competition are guaranteed all-rights distribution by the New Horizons Association.

The festival has also revealed the Polish Shorts Competition and European Shorts Competition titles. These can be found on the festival website www.nowehoryzonty.pl.

Programme highlights this year include retrospectives of Walerian Borowczyk and Hans-Jürgen Syberberg, Cinema Du Look – French Neobaroque, Cyberpunk cinema, Swiss Musical Documentaries and Russia’s Parallel Cinema, which will focus on the country’s most interesting recent independent films.

Among 352 films, there will be 143 Polish premieres. The festival will also host concerts of Mike Patton & Tomahawk and Diamanda Galás.
